About this event
Every August, Earth passes through the debris trail left by Comet Swift-Tuttle, a mountain-sized object hurtling through our solar system on a 133-year orbit. As these ancient particles, some no larger than a grain of sand, strike our atmosphere at 59 kilometers per second, they ignite into brilliant streaks of light. These are the Perseids, humanity's favorite meteor shower, observed and celebrated for over 2,000 years.
In 2026, the Perseids arrive with a gift astronomers dream about: a New Moon. The sky will be at its darkest possible state during the peak on the night of August 12-13, meaning zero lunar interference. Under these conditions, observers in dark locations can expect to see 90 to 100 meteors per hour, nearly two shooting stars every minute, many of them brilliant fireballs that leave glowing trails across the sky.
The Perseids radiate from the constellation Perseus, named after the Greek hero who slew Medusa. But the deeper symbolic resonance runs through many traditions: falling stars have always been seen as messages from the cosmos, bridges between the celestial and terrestrial realms, and physical manifestations of wishes being carried from the heart to the heavens. In Mesoamerican tradition, shooting stars were understood as the spears of celestial warriors, or as souls in transit between worlds.
Adding to the cosmic intensity, August 12 also brings a Total Solar Eclipse visible from parts of Europe and the Arctic (Costa Rica will experience a partial view). This rare overlap of a solar eclipse and the Perseid peak creates an extraordinary day-to-night cosmic experience, the Sun obscured by day, the sky ignited by meteors by night.
At Dynamis, we will spend this evening in ceremony under the open sky. Sacred fire anchors us to the earth while the cosmos puts on its most spectacular annual display above. We work with rapé to sharpen perception and clear the inner sky, creating a mirror of the vast clarity overhead. In the silence between falling stars, we listen for what the universe is whispering.
What to expect:
Sacred fire ceremony as the sky darkens
Rapé ceremony for heightened perception and inner clarity
Open-air stargazing from Dynamis grounds (minimal light pollution)
Guided meditation between meteor peaks
Mambe circle for grounding and collective presence
Hot cacao served through the night
Why the energy is amplified:
The 2026 Perseids will have the best viewing conditions in years, a New Moon guarantees the darkest possible sky, maximizing visibility to potentially 100 meteors per hour. This also coincides with a Total Solar Eclipse earlier in the day, creating a 24-hour window of extraordinary celestial activity. The Perseid shower has been observed by humans for over two millennia; to witness it under perfect conditions during the Fire Horse year is to participate in an ancient communion between Earth and cosmos that few generations get to experience at this intensity.
